“Are you going to land your family in legal chaos after you die?”

The Sunday Times has just published an article based on research commissioned by Which?  reporting that more than 30 million British adults are not covered by a will, and those who do make one generally don’t get around to it until they are 47, according to Which?, the consumer group. A survey of 2,078 people found that 61 per cent did not have a will, which would equate to 31 million of the UK population. Without a will you could be leaving a big headache for your loved ones and the article also highlights that Amy Winehouse and Rik Mayall both died without wills.

It is a complete myth that if you are married your spouse will get everything anyway if you die without a will. It is also a myth that common law partners are entitled to anything at all.

Certain family members can make claims against estates if they feel that they have not received what they should have had but this is costly, time consuming and very destructive to good family relationships in many cases. It is far cheaper to make a will and get things right, than to avoid the minor expense now and leave your family facing huge legal costs after you have died.

If you  made a will before you were married you may not realise that this will almost certainly have been revoked when you married. If you married when you already have children from a previous relationship they may end up with nothing unless you make a will to provide for them.

All of these problems can be avoided by spending a little time and money now and Muxloe Wills can help.
